Shrink Wrap

Most people wonder about the size of shrink wrap that should use for packaging a particular product. In this article, we will discuss how to figure out the size of the film required for the packaging of products.

The first and foremost thing to consider about the shrink wrap film is that it shrinks. A typical shrink film reduces to 60% of its original size when it shrinks. It means that you are going to have to use the film larger than your product.

The first recommendation here is to measure the circumference of the product that you want to shrink-wrap. You can measure for shrink wrap using the following products.

Centerfold Shrink Wrap

If you want to measure for centerfold shrink wrap, it is a good practice to add 2-3 inches to the height and width of the product. For instance, if a product is 10 inches wide and 4 inches tall, you are going to have to add 2 inches extra while measuring the film to use. It means that you will need to use 16 inches wide shrink wrap film for wrapping your product. You can pick the film of increased size if a 16-inch wide film is not available. You cannot pick a smaller film.

Shrinkwrap tubing

If you want to measure for shrink wrap tubing, you will want to measure the circumference of the widest point, add 10-15 percent to the derived number, and divide that sum by two. For instance, if a product has a circumference of 10 inches, you will need to add one inch extra. It will make the sum 11. Dividing it by two will give 5.5 inches. It means that you are going to have to use 6 inches wide shrink tubing for your product. If six inches wide tubing is not available, you can go for the tubing of increased width.

Shrinkwrap bags

Measuring for shrink wrap bags is a pretty similar procedure as that used for shrink wrap tubing. If the circumference of a product is 14 inches and the length 20 inches, you are going to find the width by adding 10% to the size of the circumference. It will make 14+1.4=15.4. Dividing this sum by two will give 7.7. The width of the required bag should be 8 inches. With the length of the product being 20 inches, you are going to have to use an 8x20-inch bag. You can consider choosing a bag of increased size if 8 inches wide bag is not available.

Before wrapping the products, place them in their containers to make sure that they will not extend out after shrink wrapping. It is to ensure the safety of your packages.

Sometimes, using these formulas to measure the size of the required shrink-wrap may be difficult, so you may want to use free measuring tools available online. Alternatively, you can call a packaging consultant to discuss sizing requirements to get a clear idea of this matter.
